LOWELL LIGHT & POWER CELEBRATES PUBLIC POWER WEEK OCT 3-9

Lowell Light & Power is celebrating Public Power Week October 3-9, along with more than 2,000 other community-owned, not-for-profit electric utilities that collectively provide electricity to 49 million Americans.

“This year, we especially celebrate the employees of Lowell Light & Power—the people behind public power,” said General Manager Charlie West. “These folks work tirelessly to keep our community up and running 24 hours a day seven days a week,” said West. “Our dedicated staff members work in many departments including human resources, administration, accounting and finance, field supervision, and engineering and operations; and pull together with a common goal: keeping Lowell powered.”

“Our service is reliable and safe and we take pride in serving our friends and neighbors,” said Distribution Manager Ryan Teachworth. “Lowell Light and Power is proud to have served Lowell for 125 years.”

Lowell Light & Power invites its customers to participate in a variety of Public Power Week Events. Activities include:

• Free popcorn and LED Nightlight for customers who stop in the office throughout the week (Mon-Fri)
• Enter to Win a Bill Credit drawing—customers can stop in the office during the week or stop by LL&P’s booth at the Lowell Harvest Celebration to enter
• Facebook Contest with daily prizes (Mon-Fri) and a grand prize—details on LL&P’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/lowelllightandpower
• Cherry Creek 4th Graders Art Contest – drawings will be displayed in the LL&P office lobby and the winning student will receive a pizza party for his/her class
• The Annual Lowell Harvest Celebration at the conclusion of Public Power Week on October 9th from 10am – 4pm on the Riverwalk. Stop by for a fun photo, pumpkin decorating, a spin on the prize wheel, and customers can Enter to Win a Bill Credit. And that’s not all! Kids will be able to climb a small pole and snap a selfie with a lineman.

Today Lowell Light & Power has 17 employees and two primary facilities; an office building at 127 N. Broadway and an Energy Center at 625 Chatham. The Energy Center houses the distribution and generation departments and is also the location of LL&P’s two natural gas fired combustion turbines. LL&P serves approximately 2,500 residential customers and 420 commercial and industrial customers.

Public Power Week is an annual national event coordinated by the American Public Power Association in Washington, D.C. The American Public Power Association is the voice of not-for-profit, community-owned utilities that power 2,000 towns and cities nationwide. The Association represents public power before the federal government to protect the interests of the more than 49 million people that public power utilities serve, and the 93,000 people they employ. It advocates and advises on electricity policy, technology, trends, training, and operations. Its members strengthen their communities by providing superior service, engaging citizens, and instilling pride in community-owned power. More information can be found at www.PublicPower.org.
